About The Artist

Marcus Klassen is a bass-baritone, pianist, and composer living in Vermillion, SD. He enjoys choral music and has sung with the Oasis Chorale, USD Chamber Singers, Faith Builders Chorale, WLU Chamber Singers, WLU opera chorus and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, USD Symphonic Choir and the Sioux City Symphony, and the Mennonite Memorial Choir, among others. As a soloist Marcus has premiered the role of Commander Patzig in Stephanie Martin’s opera “Llandovery Castle” with Opera Laurier. This spring he will sing the role of Simone in Puccini’s “Gianni Schicci” with USD Opera.
Marcus has a special passion for church music, and in addition to working as accompanist and cantor at St. Agnes Catholic church in Vermillion, he has composed sacred pieces, motets, psalm settings, and a Requiem mass setting. Other compositions include vocal works, a string quartet, and symphonic compositions.
Marcus has both taught music in schools and given private voice and piano lessons.
