Washington Pavilion Announces New Visual Arts Center Director

Sioux Falls, SD (August 28, 2014) – The Washington Pavilion is pleased to announce that Kara Dirkson, a professional and experienced ambassador for the arts, will become the new Director of the Visual Arts Center (VAC) at the Washington Pavilion beginning September 29.

Dirkson brings many years of wide-ranging art related experience to her new role at the Pavilion.

Most recently, Dirkson created and managed Artisia Fine Art Services, LLC, the area’s only fine art services practice specializing in official appraisals, consulting and secondary art market sales.  She also established a formal outlet for secondary market artwork in the area called Midwest Fine Art Exchange.  As a businesswoman and art professional, she has served an array of private collectors, businesses, trust departments and public institutions.

“Kara’s experience as an administrator, curator, instructor and cultural liaison will accelerate the development of the Visual Arts Center’s programs and extend the Visual Arts Center’s influence locally, regionally, nationally and internationally,” said Larry Toll, Co-President of the Washington Pavilion.

Dirkson says she looks forward to her new position. “I am delighted and honored to join the Washington Pavilion as the Visual Arts Center Director.  I am excited to use my artistic and ambassadorial experience in service to this wonderful organization and to our community by linking Sioux Falls, the region and the state with dynamic exhibitions and programs of regional, national and international relevance.  With excellent staff to work with, we will continue growing and enhancing the Visual Arts Center’s position within our community and the art world.”

Dirkson, who was raised in Sioux Falls, SD, is an Augustana College graduate, has a Master of Science degree with an art history emphasis from Minnesota State University and completed postgraduate studies in fine art appraising. After twelve years living out of state, Dirkson returned to Sioux Falls in 2009. She is delighted to raise her family here and to contribute to the blossoming art community of her hometown.
