Virtual Festival of Trees Event 2016

Brookings, S.D. — “The Brookings Arts Council in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Brookings is pleased to share the Festival of Trees theme “ The Secret Life of Santa” for the 2016 Festival of Festival of Trees event.  While the Brookings Arts Council BUILDING will be under construction, the event will still go on, just in a virtual format for this year only!  We don’t want to cancel this beloved event, but with the renovation that is occurring in our building, it prevents us from doing our normal format of trees displayed in our main gallery.  Instead, for this year only, we will be having a virtual Festival of Trees.

“We encourage our businesses and groups to decorate their tree in their favorite location, business, clubhouse and to photograph their tree.  Send us your picture along the name of your group and we will post it on our website for online voting to occur.  We will still award the coveted ‘People’s Choice’ award and the check for $25,” states Heather Kuhlman, Executive Director of the Brookings Arts Council. “In conducting the Festival of Trees this way for this year, we do not have to limit the number of entries, and we still get to carry on the Festival of Trees tradition.  We look forward to 2017 and having the Festival of Trees in our newly renovated gallery!”

“To participate in the virtual Festival of Trees, please submit your images to, 800×640 pixels at 300dpi.  Pictures that are submitted will be uploaded onto our website on Wednesday, November 23rd with voting to begin on November 26th and will end on December 22nd. The winning tree will be chosen by popular vote and will be awarded a check for $25 for their efforts!”

To participate in the People’s Choice online voting, go to our website: and follow the link there.  Voting for the online competition will occur on our website with each vote being $1.00 with no voting limit.  Vote often and help us to celebrate those that participated in the event.

We encourage everyone to help us fill our website with the trees for this online Festival of Trees event!!
