Lakeside Lab Artist Residency Program

The Lakeside Lab is a biological field station and nature preserve in the Natural Lakes Region of Northwest Iowa. Our 143-acre lake shore campus is an environmental education facility, an active research station, and host for summer courses in field biology and lake ecology.

Our artists’ residencies provide unique opportunities for artists, musicians, and composers to create their work within an ecologically-minded community. Preference is given to artists whose work engages with ecology, science, and natural history in unique and exciting ways.

We accept applications January 1 through March 1 for two to four-week residencies. Residencies are provided at no cost to the artist and are open to artists in all stages in their careers. Artists working in diverse media are especially encouraged to apply.

The artists in residence from last summer’s program will also be having a show at the Pearson Lakes Art Center beginning May 1 and running through the middle of June. Work includes sculpture, mixed media, sound art, and photography. All work responds to the natural area of the region.
