Dakota Modern: The Art of Oscar Howe

Join us to celebrate the opening of Dakota Modern: The Art of Oscar Howe at the South Dakota Art Museum as well as Continuum: Honoring Oscar Howe’s Legacy with FREE events and activities throughout the day, including:
9 am | Coffee with the Curators Kathleen Ash-Milby and Christina Burke (South Dakota Art Museum lower level)
10 am * | Dakota Modern: A Conversation with the Curators Kathleen Ash-Milby and Christina Burke (South Dakota Art Museum lower level) | Reserve your spot here (free)
Native American Performances and Activities (on Anderson Plaza and the Campus Green behind the Museum, inside in the case of inclement weather):
12 pm | Flute performance by Bryan Akipa, Dakota flute maker and player, National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) National Heritage Fellow
1 pm | Hoop dance performance by Jackie Bird
2:30 pm | WAKPA IPAKSAN Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe Youth Drum Group and Dancers
3:30 pm | Storytelling with Jerry Fogg
Also from 11 am – 4 pm on Anderson Plaza, enjoy food trucks, games and hands-on art activities hosted by the American Indian Student Center, Brookings Arts Council, Brookings Public Library, Children’s Museum of South Dakota, and McCrory Gardens.
