(FROM THE BROOKINGS ARTS COUNCIL: Brookings, SD) Brookings is bringing back and will be hosting the Premiere South Dakota youth art competition titled “creARTive” on Saturday, April 5, 2014 on the SDSU Campus.
The Brookings Arts Council along with SDSU Department of Visual Arts and the City of Brookings would like to invite schools and students to a Premiere Art Expo and Competition for high school art students across South Dakota. The purpose of this event is to provide recognition and support for state high school art programs. We want to recognize outstanding art talent and to encourage students in their continued art education. Gift cards for art supplies will be awarded to the winners in each category and matching funds will be awarded to each of the winning school’s art program. The competition will include photography, painting, drawing, design, ceramics, and open category. Our vision is to provide a fun and supportive competition that will encourage, inspire, and reward our high school artists and art programs statewide. “We are excited to celebrate artists and I believe it will be an annual signature event for the City of Brookings,” remarked Mayor Reed.
According to Mayor Reed, “Brookings is excited and proud to host South Dakota’s talented young artists and display their work.”
