Artwork for Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Avera

New Hospital and Medical Clinic Facility

Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Avera is in the process of building a new hospital and medical clinic in Sioux Center, IA.  SCCH & HC is searching for appropriate artwork for the facility in prominent locations in the public lobby, clinical areas and hospital units.  The facility is scheduled to open in early spring, 2014.

Mission and Vision

The development of the new hospital and medical clinic is in keeping with their mission to bring hope, health and healing to life.  As a Christian-based health ministry, they seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus’ healing ministry.

Scope of Building

The new facility will be home to a number of entities dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care.  The main public area will be a large “Town Center” enhanced with skylights, a master staircase, and a unique glass element.  Public gathering areas are also incorporated within it.  The building will also house physician clinic spaces.

The Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Avera will provide a continuum of healthcare services for patients such as a hospital, medical clinic, specialty clinics and physical therapy.  One unique aspect of the facility is that it is focused on a neighborhood theme which seeks to create a healing environment for patients and guests.  Each neighborhood has been designated with a theme.

Art Location

The intent of this RFP is to obtain artwork that will be unique to the building, and that will enhance the neighborhood themes.  SCCH & HC is open to all different artistic mediums; 2 dimensional as well as 3 dimensional.  Attached is an artist rendering of the facility, both the interior and exterior views.  SCCH & HC’s Art Committee will give the final direction of placement of all submittals.

Team Approach

Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Avera realizes that because of the uniqueness of this building and the different locations within the property, a mix of artistic mediums may be used.  Based on this, SCCH & HC is receptive to either an individual response or a team of artists.  If a team approach is proposed, each artistic team should respond with a team leader, who will be the main contact for the team.

Statement of Interest

All teams or individuals wishing to respond to this RFP must submit a written statement of their interest and intention by July 15th at 5PM to:

Artistic Theme

Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Avera is proud of its Christian-based health ministry and is part of the larger Avera network founded by the Benedictine and Presentation Sisters.  These two organizations of religious women have a long history of ministry and service to the people of the Dakotas.  More information on their history and sponsorships can be found at www.Avera.org.

While artists are free to submit their creative designs, the centralized theme for the building can be summed up in:

Psalm 23: “1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

The following themes are also present in the new facility:

Rural Life – found in the Family Practice clinic area

Healing Garden – found in the Surgery and Specialty clinic areas

Brook – found in the Emergency and Imaging areas

Prairie – found in the In-patient areas of the hospital

Rolling Hills – found in the dining, administration and therapy areas

Given the affect that art work can have on patients being served in this facility, the artwork should be realistic in design evoking emotions of peace, comfort, hope, and dignity.  Our general art philosophy avoids muted colors, sunsets, roads that lead to nowhere and images that showcase extreme weather (too much snow/ice or dry/parched land).
