Hector Curriel personal journey as an artist began in childhood. Born and raised in Lima, Peru showed an aptitude for art from an early age. He studied architecture at University of Engineering in Lima Peru, and further developed his drawing, painting and composition skills.
In 2001 he moved to the United States, and he studied art at the Art Instruction School in Minneapolis, MN. After leaving school he moved in 2005 to Sioux Falls, SD, and he began working as an editorial cartoonist for some newspapers in the States. Also, he established a career as a book illustrator and fine artist. In 2009 he won a Second Place Award in the Charles Schulz Cartoon Art Competition , in 2011, a First Place Professional Award at Art Instruction Schools, and the Midwest Book Award Winner as a book illustrator.
Many of his artworks are located in places like Sanford Hospital, Avera Mc Kennan Hospital, Sioux Falls Community Foundation, etc. He has been featured in various exhibits at venues such as the California State Library, Augustana University, Washington Pavilon, Minnesota West Community College, etc.
Additionally, he has been working for more than five years as an accomplished school presenter and holds frequent art workshops as part of Artists in Residency Program for the South Dakota Art Council.
