About The Artist

Haley Jo lives and works in the community of Sioux Falls, SD.  Growing up in Minnehaha county, she developed a strong love for South Dakota landscape, the elements and the spiritual awe of the prairie.  As an Artist, Haley Jo enjoys the process of creating in an intuitive, almost trance like state of being. Duality exists within her representations of 2D and 3D works.

Inspired by nature, she gravitates towards mixed media brushwork and drawing. The use of soft pastels, charcoal and oil paint can be found throughout her 2D work.  A common theme among her 2D work is the symbiotic relationship between natural elements and animal symbology. The use of non-traditional substrates is another over arching theme to her work, not limited to paper or canvas, but also skateboards and other found objects. The merging of layers and color convey a sense of movement through out the work. As she creates each piece the gestural forms of color capture the moment of creation, as she dances with the brush.

Haley Jo advocates for creative social awareness through her sculptural representations of women’s work, lived experience and environmental ideologies. Her 3D works are expressed through the assemblage of found objects and cast iron sculptures. She has been learning the process of metal casting since the Spring of 2022. Her journey in the foundry arts has captivated her self expression, as she continues to explore processes that speak to her spirit.

The essence of mystical and ephemeral processes, such as building sand molds for casting iron, bridge the duality found in her multi faceted works.  Haley Jo is a forever student to the mysteries of the universe.
