Opera returns to SDSO stage with Mozart’s comedic retelling of Don Giovanni

Sioux Falls, S.D. – The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra (SDSO) is proud to present one of the greatest operas ever composed, Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Following the story of title character Don Giovanni, his excessive philandering, and eventual demise to hell, the comedy is brought together with orchestra, chorus, and a full cast of actors from across the United States.

Stage director Maria Todaro is no stranger to directing operas, having directed performances for the New Jersey Festival Orchestra and the Michigan Opera Theater. Todaro says she loves opera because it is so powerful, and you will experience a level of emotion like you have never experienced before. “Don Giovanni for me is about choices and their consequences. It reflects our eternal conflicts between what is good and bad, and is unique because of the genius of the music and the intricacies of the characters.”

“Often people come with a misconception of what opera truly is nowadays. It takes courage to spontaneously see this art form for the first time, but I have seen kids absolutely focused and riveted to their seats.”

The SDSO performs Mozart’s Don Giovanni on Saturday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, January 29 at 2:30 p.m. at the Washington Pavilion. Tickets can be purchased online at sdsymphony.org or by calling the Washington Pavilion box office at (605) 367 – 6000.

The Crescendo Program offers $10 tickets to all Classical Series performances to anyone under the age of 35 as well as free tickets for children with the purchase of an adult ticket to any Classical Series concert. In addition, members of the community who have never attended an SDSO performance before can receive a complimentary ticket to their first Classical Series concert. For more information on the Crescendo Program, please call the box office at (605) 367-6000.
