We only create the world when the world falls apart. That’s the only time we have to.
The world does fall apart: in every family, on every continent, in every century. Sometimes the world is blown to bits, even, but not by alien forces or strange new threats. It’s weather, diseases, geo-political conflicts, all of them ordinary. Even ‘1000-year’ floods seem to come more often these days.
And then we emerge, bleary-eyed, and wonder what to do next. While we wonder, we tell stories. Defiant stories. Tender stories. Stories that hope to be hopeful.
The violence continues. Of course. The world falls apart yet again. Of course.
Yet somehow the stories go on. And the world lives.
