Sarah Odens received her BA in Art and English from the University of Sioux Falls. In 2015 she completed her MFA at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, where she was awarded a Dissertation Completion Fellowship from the College of Arts and Letters.
Sarah has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions in both South Dakota and Michigan. She is the Assistant Curator at the Washington Pavilion where she co-curates exhibitions and develops educational programming.
Sarah’s paintings explore the social implications of online images of domestic perfection. Her work transforms these images into abstracted musings on the joy and the futility of chasing perfection. Fragments from poems and online domestic sources filter her work, conjuring a diaristic space that alludes to the choices and expectations attendant on women in the shadow of competitive online domesticity-mania.
