6 Degrees of Separation Art Party March 1st

March is Arts Month!  Celebrate with the Sioux Falls Arts Council

6 Degrees of Separation Arts Celebration and Party!
Fundraiser for the Sioux Falls Arts Council
March 1st, 7:00 – 11:00 p.m.
Museum of Visual Materials
500 N. Main Avenue
Admission–$20 per person

Many years ago, the Sioux Empire Arts Council, whose mission is to promote the arts, placed an additional emphasis on celebrating the arts in March of every year.  The local “March is Arts Month” was coordinated in conjunction with the corresponding national movement organized by the National Endowment for the Arts.  Over time, the NEA’s movement changed and since 1993, the national non-profit organization Americans for the Arts has celebrated October as “National Arts and Humanities Month.”  The Sioux Falls Arts Council, however, has continued to celebrate March is Arts Month locally and will do so again in 2013.

The second annual 6 Degrees of Separation Arts Celebration and Party is intended to show the interconnections of the six divisions of fine arts: visual arts, music, theater, dance, literature, and film.  Every one of us is exposed and connected to at least one of the fine arts every single day.  We are surrounded by art, at home, at work, in the car–everywhere.

The theme for the art party is “See Yourself in the Arts.”  Large frames will be hung through out the Museum of Visual Materials and guests can frame themselves in a photo, take photos of each other, of the bands, of the working artists, or anything else.  “See Yourself in the Arts” hopefully helps people realize that the arts aren’t just interconnected to each other, but to everyone else as well.  We aren’t just observers of the arts, we are truly a part of the arts.
